A special networking event on 24 October will break down barriers for Southside job-seekers, offering them a unique chance to get up close and personal with real employers representing a host of industries.
Presented in Moorooka by not-for-profit organisation Belong, the Careers Day event will bring together 14 industry guests with around 60 eager, work-ready job-seekers, says Belong Director, Trish Cattermole.
“Many of the job seekers we support hail from backgrounds where employment and industry qualifications are the exception rather than the rule. They miss out on the kinds of role modelling that set up positive expectations for career development from an early age, and are denied access to sources of opportunity offered through strong networks,” said Ms Cattermole.
“This event will provide a unique opportunity for people to explore their fit with these companies, to build self-confidence, and to get the insider’s perspective on how to stand out from the crowd when applying for a job.”
“The networking opportunities available at this event are a vital ingredient to breaking the cycle of intergenerational disadvantage and unemployment,” she said.
The event will also feature a live panel discussion, inviting job-seekers to pick the minds of some of Brisbane’s biggest employers about what they look for in the ideal candidate.
Businesses and training organisations taking part in the event include:
- Bunnings
- Hutchinson Builders
- Hastings Deering
- Skyline Landscape Services
- Haulmark Trailers
- Sunst8
- Centacare
- Frizelle Sunshine Automotive
- Builders Clean Brisbane
- BUSY at Work
- Programmed Skilled Workforce
- Mum’s Angels
- TABMA Australia
- Electrogroup
